The Wolverhampton Wanderers fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to the transfer window ahead of their eagerly-anticipated return to top-flight football next season.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are heading to the Premier League after emphatically clinching the Championship title this season, and with financial backing behind them they should expect to hold their own in the top-flight next season. The resident Wanderers propping up our bar are hoping the club can make a real statement of intent to announce their return to the top-flight, and according to recent reports in the Daily Mirror they are expected to do just that.
The report claims that Wolves are lining up a move to sign Yaya Toure (valued at £4.5 million by Transfermarkt) this summer when his contract at Manchester City expires, although they will face competition from West Ham United, Burnley and clubs from abroad for his signature.
Although Toure is 34-years-old and certainly past his peak, he still has plenty to offer the club. Toure’s extensive range of passing with both his feet and his neat dribbling in midfield would provide Wolves with a calming creative influence which is often hard to come by for a newly-promoted side.
The Ivory Coast international may not possess the frightening burst of acceleration that he has used to terrorise Premier League defences with down the years, but he more than makes up for that with his ability to curl in a wicked free-kick from long-range.
Toure’s experience playing at two of Europe’s most prestigious clubs, namely Barcelona and Manchester City would make him a valuable asset in the dressing room and, judging by his popularity amongst the Citizens supporters, his presence at Wolves would provide everybody associated with the club with a huge boost ahead of their promotion.
Toure is a dead-ball specialist, a creative genius and a born-winner, so Wolves would undoubtedly be making a huge statement of intent in relation to their long-term ambitions by securing his services this summer.
