Last season, when Wolverhampton Wanderers strolled their way to the Championship title, the young midfielder, Morgan Gibbs-White featured 13 times in the league, starting just once. However, he’s come to life this season and Nuno Espirito Santo has a star on his hands as the 18-year-old has proven to be more than good enough in the Premier League.
Any club in the top flight would love to have someone as talented as Gibbs-White, and there’s absolutely no doubting the fact that Gareth Southgate will have his eye on the youngster as he continues to go about his business at M0lineux. After making 13 league appearances last season, his 11 already this season just who how highly he’s rated at the club, and he’s a dead cert to go on and play more games.
So far, only two of those 11 games have been from the start and whilst the player himself will love the minutes he’s getting, he’ll be desperate to get into the starting lineup on a more regular basis. It won’t be easy, though. Santo has been using a double pivot of Joao Moutinho and Ruben Neves in midfield, and it’s hard to see either of those two being benched for the young Englishman.
Wolves’ preferred system of a 3-4-3 has worked wonders for them so far, and they’re punching well above their weight as they sit 7th in the Premier League and just one point behind Manchester United. Gibbs-White and co are one of the most heavily tipped sides to crack the top six, and what an achievement it would be for them in their first season back in the Premier League.
However, with great success comes more on-lookers, and Gibbs-White will certainly be one who the top sides are looking at. It will be a miracle if he hasn’t been rewarded with an England call-up by this time next year, and with international exposure comes top sides sniffing around, but staying at Molineux will have to be a priority as the 18-year-old looks to develop at a place that he knows, and a place where he’s going to be given game time.
