The rumours from the Portuguese press linking Wolverhampton Wanderers to Sporting Braga's defensive midfielder player João Palhinha are getting a lot bigger.

Newspaper A Bola (via Sport Witness) brings a piece saying that the 24-year-old is on his way to England, as the Lions are about to receive a convincing offer for his transfer.

Palhinha is at the end of a two-year loan spell at Braga, and the outlet says that he should not even return to Sporting at the end of the season.

The Lions would get a bid of €15 million (roughly £13.3 million), and that is reportedly exactly what is considered enough to let him go, so there is an ‘agreement in principle’ with an English club already.

It is said that the team who are making the offer have been ‘working discreetly’, but ‘everything indicates’ it is Wolves.

Last week, newspaper Correio da Manhã also reported the possibility of this deal. They claimed that the Midlands club had reached an ‘agreement in principle’ for the transfer, for the same €15 million reported by A Bola, so perhaps things are indeed on the move for Palhinha to go to Molineux.

Indeed, based on his stats so far this campaign, the Portuguese ace can be the necessary anchor man that WWFC are looking for in order to kick on as a side. Palhinha wins a staggering 10.4 duels per Primeira League game, and also averages a relatively impressive 3.5 tackles per match, according to Sofascore.

Yes, the Premier League would arguably be a step up. However, Palhinha has the necessary qualities needed to win possession back for Nuno Esprito Santo's men, who can then use the abilities of Ruben Neves and Joao Moutinho in the middle of the park to pass the ball onto their forwards.
