Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Raul Jimenez is a target for Real Madrid, according to Don Balon.
The Spanish publication are claiming that the head coach of the Spanish outfit believes Jimenez would be the perfect fit for Real’s system to complement Karim Benzema. It has also emerged that Jimenez would be happy to return to the capital of Spain, where he previously played for the club’s arch-rivals Atletico Madrid.
The current transfer market has been inflated for a number of seasons now after Neymar moved to Paris Saint Germain for a whopping £200m. Therefore, it would be hard for the club to replace such a valuable asset at a reasonable price.
Jimenez’s impact on Wolves’ season has been quite sensational with the forward having scored 22 goals in just 44 games across all competitions (via Transfermarkt). As a matter of fact, if you were to take away all of his attacking contributions during the side’s top-flight campaign, Nuno Espirito Santo’s side would be 21 points worse off and be second from bottom in the Premier League table.
He’s proven to be an even bigger influence when you take a look at a number of the attacking and defensive statistics. The £45m-rated, as per Transfermarkt, Mexico international has had the most shots, played the second-most key passes and committed the joint-third most fouls per game in the top flight, as per WhoScored. It’s clear from the numbers that he is having an impact on both sides of the game, showing how important he is.
As you can see, losing Jimenez really would be huge for Wolves. His impact on the club’s season to date has been amazing and to find a replacement for a reasonable price would be like trying to find a needle in a haystack in the current transfer market.
Wolves must do their best to retain the forward especially as they sit just five points off the top four. To compete at the top tier of European football, you really do need to keep your best players if you want to make a big impact.
