Heading into the upcoming campaign with Europa League football also on the schedule this season, adding a player like Ivan Perisic to their squad could only be considered a statement signing for Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer.

According to a report by FC Inter News, Nuno Espirito Santo's side have made an enquiry regarding the Croatia international's availability as it would appear Inter Milan are willing to cash in on their World Cup finalist.

It is thought the 30-year-old could be available for a figure in the region of €30million and €35million (£26.8m and £31.3m) this summer as Perisic is thought to be keen on a move to the Premier League - although it is suggested a move to Molineux is not quite high up on his radar.

However, Wolves must not let that distract them from trying to convince him that they are a club on the up and a team that has plenty of potential to continue to upset the apple cart in England's top-flight.

Nuno's side is already boasting with a number of huge names that have stellar backgrounds - just look at the likes of Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho and Raul Jimenez for starters. Arguably, a club like Wolves may have been beneath them at one point, however, they have excelled and seem more than comfortable with being at the Old Gold and helping them achieve their ambitious aims - admittedly Jorge Mendes may have had a say but it is down to them at the end of the day in regards to where they play their football.

As mentioned, Perisic, who is valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, could only be considered a statement signing for the West Midlands outfit as he would be the calibre of player fans would have only have been able to imagine having in their ranks once before and would, perhaps, help to further show how well Wolves are moving forward.

Clearly, a player like the Croatian would also go a long way into helping Nuno's side improve massively as he would be able to fill out a problem area of the pitch - the right-hand side of the midfield had been a concern at times last season.

Indeed, Adama Traore's big-money move from Middlesbrough last summer hardly paid off and his stats hardly justified the £18m fee splashed out on him, whilst the fact that he made most of his appearances from the substitutes bench must surely suggest he is not the answer; the Inter Milan man would surely have to be considered an upgrade on Ivan Cavaleiro and Helder Costa as well, right?

According to WhoScored's player comparison tool, Perisic managed to beat every single stat that the Traore recorded, from goals and assists (eight and three compared to one and one) to shots per game and successful pass percentage (2.9 and 74.6% compared to Traore's 0.7 and 72.2%).

Obviously the Inter Milan attacker, who also offers plenty of versatility with his style of play, played more minutes, however, perhaps it would not be wrong to suggest that he would still have come out on top if they had a similar amount of time on the pitch.

His experience, combined with his ability, could help to bring another level out of some of the stars Nuno already has at his disposal and would surely help to continue the club's upward trajectory.

With Perisic in their armoury, there is no reason as to why Wolves would not be able to improve on last season's efforts and that is why they should look to make him a statement signing this summer.
