Wolves look set to bolster their squad in the January transfer window with the signing of right-back Aurelio Buta on loan, according to the Mirror via the Express.
Manager Nuno Espirito Santo has told the board to seal his signature when the window opens, adding another Portuguese player to his squad at Molineux and the club are understood to be closing in.
Buta, 22, plays for Belgian side Royal Antwerp as a wing-back, perfect for the system Nuno employs at Wolves at present.
Predominantly playing on the right, Buta could provide competition for Ireland international Matt Doherty, who hasn’t quite hit the heights of last season so far this term.
Indeed, the player has made 66 of his career appearances as a right-back (per Transfermarkt) though has also featured higher up on that flank on occasion, suggesting he could operate as a wing-back in Wolves’ system.
Given the Old Gold are also battling in the Europa League, the added option could obviously prove helpful as the fixtures begin to pile in thick and fast.
He joined Antwerp from Benfica B in the summer, and has represented Portugal at under-20 level, but never for the senior side.
Nuno’s side started their season back in July in the qualifying rounds and suffered a slow start to the season as a result. So, while things have picked up of late, strengthening the squad could be a way of ensuring that doesn’t happen again.
