Newcastle United supporters have been somewhat downbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side bow out of the FA Cup at the hands of Premier League champions Chelsea on Sunday.
Rafa Benitez’s men earned their place in the fourth round of the world’s oldest club competition off the back of beating Luton Town 3-1 in the last 64 earlier this month, thus equalling their effort from last season. However, the Magpies were unable to go beyond round four for the first time since 2006 as a brace from Michy Batshuayi as well as a Marcos Alonso free-kick sealed a comfortable success for Antonio Conte’s Blues, thus leaving the North East giants firmly focused on Premier League survival between now and the end of the season.
Consequently, there have been many despondent Newcastle fans in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are sincerely hoping that their club can bring in the necessary reinforcements to help move the club away from the bottom three.
Yet one man who doesn’t look like he’s on his way to St James’ Park is Liverpool’s Daniel Sturridge, as although reports earlier on Monday suggested that a move to Newcastle was in the offing, subsequent reports have suggested that West Brom is his likely destination.
And this complete U-turn has unsurprisingly provoked quite a response from Magpies supporters on Twitter, many of whom are seriously frustrated with their club…
Sturridge will end up scoring against us when we play WBA.
You just know that he’ll score the goal that’ll send us down.
Thanks again Ashley #NUFC

West Brom about to steal the Sturridge deal from us, a new low. #nufc

Sturridge has made the right move. He’s gone to a club who at least try to do the very best they can, not the advertising dept of a brand of tat that we sadly are now. Wonder what Shefki Kuqi is up to these days #NUFC
