The Villa fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news that Neil Taylor is unlikely to be fit in time for this weekend’s clash with Millwall. The Welshman was substituted just after 20 minutes in last weekend’s game against Derby and Alan Hutton, who came on in his place, put in a stellar display that would’ve probably seen Taylor dropped if he wasn’t injured anyway.

The injury to Taylor has gone down quite well with the Villains propping our bar up, who would rather have Hutton feature in their final Championship game before the playoffs anyway. The Scottish defender, who was part of the infamous ‘bomb squad’ at Aston Villa when they were relegated in 2016, has improved his reputation ten-fold in Birmingham as his solid defensive displays have led fans to trust him alongside James Chester and John Terry at the back.
The Villains have one last chance to gain momentum before the playoffs as they take on Millwall at The Den on Sunday. Millwall went into their last two games with hopes of sneaking a playoff spot, but after losing 2-0 to Middlesbrough they now have very slim hopes of promotion. It’s likely that Millwall will have to settle for 8th this season, although they’ll no doubt give it a good go against Villa on Sunday, meaning that Alan Hutton will have to be at the top of his game in the absence of Taylor.

and his inability to play football might also hamper his selection too

He won’t be missed. Both James Bree and Mitch Clark should be ahead of him next season.
