Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have received a surprise boost as they tuck into their pub lunches this Friday afternoon, after it was claimed a world-class manager wants the job at the Emirates Stadium.
During a Q&A session with the London Evening Standard, columnist Tony Evans suggested that the position at Arsenal is the one that Pep Guardiola would prefer.
The former Barcelona boss has announced he will leave Bayern Munich in the summer and wants to come to the Premier League, where there is no shortage of potential suitors. However, Arsenal were considered to be outsiders in the hunt.
That doesn’t seem to be the case though as Evans says Guardiola is very attracted to Arsenal:
“Ever since he took that time off after Barca, he’s talked about clubs that attract him. It’s a very short shortlist and Arsenal are top of it.”
“The problem is, the position’s not open. It might just be a case of wrong place at wrong time, which is sad for you Gunners. He’d be a perfect fit. It does worry me there’s no plan for the succession at the Emirates.”
Arsene Wenger marks 20-years in charge of Arsenal this summer and he hasn’t revealed any exit plans as of yet, although his current contract expires in 2017. Whilst there’s a chance Guardiola may wait, the Gunners risk missing out on his signature.
Our landlord has urged Arsenal to ensure Guardiola moves to North London, as he feels the Catalan boss can make the Gunners into Champions League contenders.
