Last night football fans here in the Transfer Tavern were in complete shock as they watched Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski produce one of the most stunning substitute appearances of all time, to see his team beat Wolfsburg 5-1.
Bayern were losing the match at the Allianz Arena 1-0 at half time before the Polish striker was introduced.
It took him only six minutes to make an impact slotting the ball into the net as the ball was squared to him. One minute later he rifled his second past Benaglio from 20 yards.
He scored his third three minutes and 18 seconds after the first which saw the 27-year-old record the quickest ever Bundesliga hat-trick. His original shot came back off the post and after two more attempts, he lofted the ball into the empty net.
Two minutes later he scored his fourth since coming of the bench and he still saved the best for last as he produced a stunning bicycle kick from the edge of the box to leave the Wolfsburg keeper stranded, as he wrapped up his five goal haul in just nine minutes.
In scoring the five goals, Lewandowski was the the first ever Bundesliga substitute to score five goals and he is the first player to score five goals in a German league game for 24 years.
Our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern says he has never seen anything like it and shared Pep Guardiola’s stunned expression much to the amusement of our punters at the bar!
