Manchester City fans are on cloud nine here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they hear the latest claim from Metro.
The publication seem to think that the impossible could become possible – with Lionel Messi one day making the move to Manchester City.
As our landlord admits, at one point we thought that Messi would be at Barcelona for life, but now after a couple of rumours of discontent this season, not to mention the words emerging from City defender Pablo Zabaleta, we have to remind ourselves that stranger things have happened in football!
Zabaleta was asked about Messi and the links to City, and he was nothing but positive.
“I went to Leo’s house and everybody was talking about the new owners and the big money,” the player claimed.
“Leo has asked me what it is like to be here.
“I would like to show him around Manchester. Maybe I could take him out to Didsbury and we could have some fish and chips. I think he would like that!”
It would take a world record fee to land the player who many think is the very best we have ever seen, and as we all know, money is no object at City meaning that we think there could be more to this than we first thought.
Is it just unrequited affection for City or is there some weight to this? Let us know your thoughts below.
