Our resident Manchester City fans, who were in the Tavern to celebrate their Capital One Cup triumph over Liverpool, have been left disappointed by a report in The Guardian which claims that Gerard Piqué has ruled out a move to their club.
The Barcelona centre back was touted with a reunion with Pep Guardiola when he takes over at the Etihad in the summer.
However, reports indicate that his ‘love’ for City’s rivals Manchester United would steer him away from such a transfer. The 28-year old revealed his intentions on social media, via video streaming application Periscope, stating:
“My love for Manchester United is too great for me to sign for City, even though Pep is a great coach.” I’m very happy in Barcelona. United are my second club, but my future is at Barça. I’m very proud to play at Barcelona. I think it’s the best club in the world.”
Pique also suggested that he would like to experience a new league before he retires, adding:
“I would like to try a different league when I’ve got a few years to go before retiring. I don’t know if it will be Colombia, I’d like that for [his wife] Shakira, but nobody can predict the future.”
Our landlord believes that he could be a big miss for the Blues and Guardiola, who will surely be looking to bring yet another defender to the club at the end of the season.
