Bayern Munich failing to qualify for the Champions League is a real possibility this season, it’s been a bit of a crazy year in the Bundesliga but there is a big chance that they might fail to make it into Europe’s top competition.
The Munich side could face a real exodus should that occur. Our great friends at Caught Offside are reporting that one of the players leaving the club could be Franck Ribery, and they reckon that it could be Manchester United that he moves too.
Ribery began his career in France, and managed to bounce around numerous different clubs, before he randomly ended up in Turkey playing for Galatasaray, he then returned to France and began to make a real name for himself at Marseille.
His time there was impressive and he stayed for 2 seasons, in this time he began to demonstrate his excellent skills and he began to show what a quality player he was. Ribery moved to Bayern Munich in the Summer of 2007, interestingly that same Summer it was reported that Sir Alex Ferguson had tried to sign him for Manchester United, the Frenchman however ended up in Germany.
His time in the Bundesliga has been excellent and he has shown what a good player he can be at the top flight. Known for his pace, energy, dribbling ability and excellent passing ability I am confident that he would be a great Premier League footballer. Some people have suggested that his short stature means he would struggle in the more physical England league, however as has been proved previously it may not necessarily be a problem, the success of David Silva has demonstrated that you don’t need to be big and strong to succeed.
Caught Offside suggest that Ribery might be being lined up as a replacement for Nani, should he move to Inter Milan this Summer as some rumours have suggested.
I firstly feel it is unlikely that the Portuguese winger will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season and I don’t know where this would leave any potential move for Ribery. Clearly the Frenchman is a top player, and if they could use both the current Munich winger and Nani I think that would be a great move for the club, I believe Ribery would be a better player than Valencia and I can certainly see the sense in moving for him.
There is no indication given about how much it would cost the Old Trafford club to finance the move, but safe to say it would not be cheap. Sir Alex Ferguson really needs to rebuild for next season since he will lose a few players this Summer, and Ribery would be a great addition, with or without Nani. If Munich fail to make the Champions League this season, watch this space…
