The January transfer window really can’t come quick enough for the Newcastle United fans here in the Transfer Tavern after their awful recent run of results. Unfortunately for them, no one is quite sure exactly what’s going on.
As talk of a takeover on Tyneside rumbles on across Tyneside, the idea of Amanda Staveley and her backers being in place to splash big cash during the New Year sales looks less likely by the minute. With that in mind, comments made by Rafa Benitez during his pre-match press conference before tomorrow’s clash with Everton have proven rather worrisome.
As reported by Lee Ryder, Benitez revealed that even he and those at the club aren’t sure on what they can spend in January, even though the squad are so clearly in need of a boost in quality. He explained those behind the scenes know what the Magpies need, though whether or not they can go out in get it in what is a difficult market remains to be seen.
Rafa on transfers: “We’re monitoring players and talking to people. We still don’t know how much money is available. We know what we need, can we get that, I don’t know.” #nufc

All this uncertainty really is a worry for our punters clad in black and white.
If Newcastle don’t spend in January, they will go down. It’s as simple as that. While Benitez is a good coach, being able to keep this team up over a 38-game campaign would be nigh-on impossible for pretty much any manager in the world.
