The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern were pretty pleased with their side’s performance against Newport County on Wednesday. Tottenham weren’t expected to require two sets of 90 minutes to put their opponents away, but after a shaky first game, there wasn’t any doubting their quality in the latter fixture.
They comfortably dismantled Newport with a comfortable 2-0 win, with a number of Mauricio Pochettino’s men impressing on the night.
There were a few standout performances, but Erik Lamela is the player that is earning most of the plaudits after the game. He hasn’t played much football in recent weeks, particularly from the start, and given that his last full game came in the last round of the cup, the Argentine was certainly under pressure to impress.
Fortunately for him, he did exactly that, with a very strong performance rewarded with a goal – his first in quite some time.
Following the game, Tottenham fans have taken to Twitter to discuss the performance, and it’s fair to say that most were impressed. They’re clearly expecting more from him over the coming weeks, but for now, they think that the Lamela of old is – finally – back.
Take a look at what they’ve had to say below…
Lamela was worth the wait #COYS

Well chuffed for Lamela getting his goal last night, if I was child or a weirdo I’d get his name on the back of my shirt over anyone else #COYS

One of my favorites after Kane…dude never takes a second off. I hope his goal today is the jumpstart Lamela needed #COYS https://t.co/ZwMohWHeHH

Lamela is back! What an effort he put in!
Nice to Toby pinging perfectly weighted balls around again.
I blame the lack of hair on Llorente's head & face for the missed chances#COYS

I know most minimize it, but great win today for @SpursOfficial. Glad to see Lamela on the score sheet. The next two are HUGE #COYS

Special mention for Erik Lamela, who I've criticised many times in past for his frustrating ways, but he was a team player tonight & deserved his goal. #COYS #THFC
