‘Would be huge’ – Man United fans name their dream £49.5m-rated Michael Carrick replacement

The Manchester United fans are feeling nervous in the Transfer Tavern ahead of their trip to face Huddersfield at the John Smith’s Stadium tomorrow evening.

Jose Mourinho takes his side to face David Wagner’s Huddersfield tomorrow on the same ground where United suffered their first defeat of the season back in October. The Red Devils faithful will be hoping their side learn their lesson from the previous visit and show no signs of complacency tomorrow evening in the 5th round of the FA Cup.

The performance of Paul Pogba is likely to be under close scrutiny tomorrow due to his lacklustre form of late in the heart of midfield, but the supporters have been discussing the signing of a new central midfielder prior to their trip to Huddersfield.

Now that Michael Carrick is 36-years-old and seemingly on his last legs as a Premier League standard footballer, the United fans have begun to open discussions regarding players who could potentially succeed him at Old Trafford.

Borussia Dortmund’s 22-year-old midfield Julian Weigl has been touted as a potential successor, but it seems the supporters would prefer their club to sign Lazio’s Sergej Milinkovic-Savic (valued at £49.5 million by Transfermarkt) next summer.

Lazio have performed well above expectation in Serie A this season as they currently sit in 5th place in the Italian top-flight, just 1 point behind AS Roma in the Champions League places. The 22-year-old Serbian international has been an instrumental part of their success this season, and his performances certainly seem to have caught the eye of the United supporters who are hoping their club will splash the cash for his signature in the future.

Here’s what the supporters had to say about Milinkovic-Savic on Twitter…
