The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are eager f0r their side’s managerial situation to get ironed out. Uncertainty surrounding the future of Antonio Conte is harming the mood of our resident Blues, and so it’s clear that a solution needs to be found.
Furthermore, the lack of certainty surrounding the managerial position is likely also having an effect on Chelsea’s transfer business, with players unlikely to be signed without a manager in place.
Given the reduced length of the transfer window, this is something that can’t happen. Chelsea need to move quickly, and one player that could be a good acquisition is former blue Oriol Romeu.
Romeu – who is rated at £10.8 million by Transfer Markt – has carved out a fantastic career for himself at Southampton, and he has certainly delivered on the potential that he showed at Stamford Bridge. A brilliant tackler, he’s very capable at sitting in front of the defence and mopping up trouble, and that’s something that Chelsea have lacked as of late.
Furthermore, he’s also incredibly composed on the ball, and whilst his main qualities come in defence, he’s more than efficient at passing the ball and moving it forward when appropriate.
His arrival would not only add an extra screen in front of the defence, but it would also help bring the best out of N’Golo Kante. Kante is wasted as a solely defensive threat, with the Frenchman possessing incredible drive and speed on the ball. By bringing in Romeu, Kante would be able to move slightly further forward, becoming more of a link between defence and attack, and he’d be able to make use of his other abilities all the while.
For Chelsea, a reunion with the Spaniard could be just what they need to add more balance to what is a poor midfield this summer.
