Liverpool’s interest in Iker Muniain could see one of their newest additions leave Anfield after just one season with the club.
The Spaniard has been heavily linked with a move to join Jurgen Klopp’s side in the summer when his contract at Athletic Bilbao expires.
It is understood that the Reds have already “made an offer” for the winger (as per Marca via Sport Witness), with Napoli also thought to have been taking an interest, and should he arrive with the Premier League outfit, one man’s future at Anfield comes into serious doubt.
Xherdan Shaqiri only joined Liverpool in the summer from Stoke City for a bargain transfer fee following their relegation to the Championship at the end of last season.
However, should a deal for Muniain be completed, then it would be likely that winger will be pushed further down the pecking order and reports in Spain are suggesting one team could be ready to act.
The Switzerland international knew he would have been joining Liverpool as a squad player but would have had the aims of breaking into the first-team, something he has not yet been able to do on a consistent basis.
With the talk of Muniain heading to Liverpool, Shaqiri’s chances would certainly become even more limited to as they already are.
The Spaniard is predominately a left winger but his versatility allows him to play almost anywhere across the front and also in an attacking midfield spot, which is an area the Reds arguably lack quality and options.
It will remain to be seen if they can add to the 25-year-old, or if he will decide to look at other options, but should he join up with them at Anfield, Shaqiri’s spell at Liverpool would likely come to a very premature end.
