The form of Felipe Anderson has been on the most intriguing sub-plots to follow since he arrived at West Ham in a mega-money deal from Lazio.

Manuel Pellegrini completed plenty of exciting deals in the 2018 summer transfer window, but none captured the imagination quite as much as the signing of Anderson.

Arriving in a deal worth £34 million, the Brazilian winger arrived with a glowing reputation after thriving in Serie A.

Renowned for his blistering speed, tight ball control and incisive end product, Anderson has provided sporadic glimpses of the enormity of his quality so far this season, but he is yet to establish the level of consistency which both Pellegrini and the supporters expect from him.

With little by way of competition for a starting berth, it's easy to see why Anderson has failed to live to his pre-season expectation so far, but that could be all set to change according to a recent report.

Indeed, according to Portuguese media outlet Ojogo, the Hammers are preparing an offer for Yacine Brahimi, although they face competition from Newcastle United and Everton for his signature.

FC Porto's winger has been with the club since 2014, but with his contract set to expire in June 2019 his future is uncertain.

As of January 1st, West Ham will be free to table a pre-contract offer to Brahimi (valued at £23.4 million by Transfermarkt) which would allow them to sign him on a free transfer at the end of the season, and after an extortionate summer splurge it's a deal which carries a huge financial appeal for the club's hierarchy.

A natural left-footer who prefers to dribble down the outside of the full-back onto his favoured foot, Brahimi would offer a genuine alternative to the right-footed Anderson who tends to drift infield from the left.

There is no question that Anderson has showcased enough quality to suggest he can become a star in east London, and the injection of fresh competition for a starting berth which Brahimi would provide could be the catalyst for his development in English football.
