Yarmolenko out: Pellegrini should seriously consider these 2 replacements in January

Things went from bad to worse this week for West Ham, with the news that Andriy Yarmolenko is set to miss around 6 months worth of action through injury.

Not only did West Ham suffer a defeat over the weekend, then, but they also lost one of their main men going forward for the foreseeable future, and that puts Manuel Pellegrini in a tough spot.

The Hammers have a strong squad, but injuries have taken their toll a bit, and now they’re looking a little bit light on the ground going forward.

In January, then, it makes sense for them to bring someone in to cover the loss of Yarmolenko, and we’ve rounded up a couple of options.

With that said, Pellegrini should consider these 2 January replacements…

Callum Hudson-Odoi

A move for Callum Hudson-Odoi would be a risk, given that he’s unproven in the Premier League, but chasing the Englishman also makes sense.

The winger was the star of Chelsea’s summer, with Maurizio Sarri’s men, including the teenager, impressing during their pre-season tour. He was a constant goal threat and an offensive outlet, and he even earnt a spot in Chelsea’s Community Sheild starting eleven.

A winger by trade, he’s able to make use of his excellent technical ability, pace and energy to make a real impact going forward.

He’s a teenager, and he did eventually lose his place in the Chelsea squad following the return of Eden Hazard, but his talent is clear for all to see.

Chelsea won’t sanction a sale, but perhaps a loan move would make sense for all involved. West Ham don’t want to give up on Yarmalenko, and so signing someone permanently may be unnecessary.

Adam Reach

25-year-old Adam Reach may be a better target if West Ham are looking for someone on a more long-term basis.

The Sheffield Wednesday winger has impressed in the Championship this season, and he’s already picked up 4 league goals.

Known for his energy, focus and impact going forward, Reach would be able to replace the sort of impact that Yarmalenko has had at West Ham so far this season.

He’s proven his worth in the second-tier, and he’s looked more than able to make the jump in the English top flight at moments already so far this season. He’d be a natural choice.
