Yaya Toure to Liverpool makes so much more sense than you might think

Jurgen Klopp may be on the lookout for a new central midfielder this summer following Emre Can’s departure.

The German finally left the club following a season-long transfer saga. The former Bayern Munich man sealed a transfer to Juventus after his contract at Anfield expired. Despite Klopp landing Naby Keita and Fabinho, another central midfielder may be on his shortlist.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain remains sidelined for the foreseeable future following a knee injury, which required surgery, picked up against Manchester City. Adam Lallana has also been plagued with injuries in recent seasons, and Marko Grujic could still leave on loan. To compete on multiple fronts, it might be wise to pick up another midfielder.

One potential option could be former Manchester City powerhouse – Yaya Toure. The Ivorian midfielder left the club after his contract expired following eight trophy-laden years with the Citizens. Valued at £2.25m by Transfermarkt, bringing Toure to Anfield could be a great move.

The former Barcelona man has lifted three Premier League trophies during his time at City – his experience could be crucial to maintaining a title challenge next year. He has first-hand knowledge of working with Pep Guardiola which could give the Reds the upper hand in the title race.

Toure’s agent stated his client would be willing to play for £1-per-week in order to stay in the Premier League. While he wouldn’t be a starter, Toure could be a useful option to have on the bench.
