The last day of the transfer window at Everton was fevered to say the least. Despite the media’s frankly misguided perception that Mikel Arteta’s exits to Arsenal was a devastating blow, the consensus amongst Everton fans is that the club did very well, creating the possibility to invest in the squad whilst losing players whose departures could easily be managed.
The current whisper is that there could be yet more good news for Everton fans as Joseph Yobo still has hopes to secure his move to Fenerbahce despite the disgraced Champions still being embroiled in a match-fixing scandal.
The Turkish transfer window remains open until Monday, and as Yobo does not feature in David Moyes’ plans, rest assured that club officials will be desperate to push through a deal.
Though Yobo is not without his critics amongst Evertonians, were he to stay at Goodison Park, many fans would view this as simply a decent addition to the squad. He would be fourth choice behind Sylvain Distin, Phil Jagielka and Johnny Heitinga, though a fourth choice with the experience, physical stature and ability of Yobo is not too shabby.
Given the attitude of the player however who is determined never to play for the Blues again, the majority of fans would prefer a sale, especially when you consider the financial problems that have blighted Everton over the summer. £2m or anything higher would be great for the Toffees, even more so now that the club has paid Real Sociedad their 10% of Arteta’s transfer fee.
