‘You are already a legend’ – Man United fans on Twitter continue to absolutely love key star

The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to their club’s post, where they tweeted a picture of David De Gea with his Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year award. The incredible Spanish shot-stopper won the award for the fourth time at the club’s end of season awards night, making him the player to have won it the most times.

David De Gea last won the award in 2016 to put himself level with Cristiano Ronaldo having won it three times. Last season the ‘keeper was pipped to the award by his countryman, Ander Herrera, who had a fantastic season in the middle of Jose Mourinho’s midfield. Now though, the shot-stopper has won his fourth player of the year award and is being recognised by the fans for it, as his displays in the Manchester United goal have won the club points that they didn’t deserve to come away with.

The standout performance from De Gea this season came at the end of 2017 when the Red Devils travelled to The Emirates to take on Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal. The Gunners dominated the game thoroughly but due to the heroics of De Gea, United came away with a 3-1 win. Performances of that calibre from a goalkeeper are hard to find, yet De Gea seems to turn them in every week, leaving the United fans in no doubt that he deserves to be picking up the club’s player of the year award.
