‘You will come back’ – Arsenal fans on Twitter feeling emotional over much-loved figure

The Arsenal fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to their 33-year-old midfielder, Santi Cazorla’s tweet thanking Arsene Wenger for what he’s learned under the Frenchman. The thank-yous have been flooding in for Wenger after he announced he’d be leaving The Emirates at the end of the season, although the fans have been pining over Cazorla as they can’t wait to see him return to action.

Cazorla has suffered horribly in the last few seasons with injury problems. Since October 2016 Cazrola has been out of action with plantar fasciitis and doesn’t look like making a first-team return too soon. Despite missing well over a year’s worth of football, the tricky midfielder is still one of Arsenal’s most well-loved players. Cazorla signed for the Gunners from Villarreal and has made 180 appearances for the club, scoring 29 goals and recording 45 assists in that time.

The Spaniard’s contract at Arsenal is set to expire in the summer, although he has the option to extend it an extra year until summer 2019. At the age of 33, it’s unlikely that Cazorla will ever reach the same level of football that he was playing in his heyday at The Emirates. With a new manager coming into the club in just a few months, it’s hard to see a future for Cazorla who will likely be forced to hang up his boots if his persistent injury problems are to continue.
