There are some sighs around the Football Transfer Tavern as talkSPORT bring reports that Dundee United star Ryan Gauld has rejected interest from a host of Premier League clubs to sign a further year extension at Tannadice.
The 18-year-old has been attracting rave reviews for his performances and the attention of several top clubs has now penned a deal keeping him with the SPL club until May 2017.
The likes of Manchester United, Liverpool and Real Madrid had been hoping to take advantage of his contractual situation which could have seen him signing professional terms with another club when the turned 18.
However the highly rated attacker will now remain in Scotland for the foreseeable future as he looks to continue his development.
Having made his debut at just 16-year-old, the playmaker has already been dubbed the ‘Mini Messi’ by Scottish supporters in the tavern and his fine form has seen him linked to some of the biggest clubs in Europe.
The 5 ft 6 in midfielder netted his sixth goal of the season in his side’s 4-1 win over Kilmarnock on Saturday, and manager Jackie McNamara explained that Gauld’s latest contract extension shows the club’s desire to build something “special”.
The Arabs boss said: “Ryan is showing his commitment to the club by signing this contract. We are trying to build something special here and securing Ryan on a longer deal signals our desire to achieve this.
“He is a fantastic talent who appreciates that Dundee United is the best place for him to develop at this time.
“Dundee United fans will quite rightly be delighted at this news and how the club is moving forward just now.”
