Some interesting news has reached us in the Football Transfer Tavern this evening.
Mail Online report that West Bromwich Albion striker Saido Berahino will reject interest from Arsenal to sign a new lucrative contract at The Hawthorns.
The 20-year-old striker, who announced his arrival on the scene with his side’s winning goal at Old Trafford earlier this season, is close to agreeing a new deal with the Baggies.
Speculation intensified about his future after it was revealed he was only getting paid £850-a-week and he could leave for a minimal fee at the end of the season due to his contract expiring.
However West Brom have been swift to put together a suitable package to ensure the highly talented England Under-21 international remains in the West Midlands despite interest from a host of Premier League sides.
As one punter points out, Arsenal, Chelsea and Everton have all been linked with the young Burundi-born striker following his impressive start to the season for Steve Clarke’s side.
But the paper reports that Berahino remains committed to West Brom and does not want to leave at this time in his career as he looks to continue his development as a young professional.
Is this really disappointing news for the Gunners or do they have bigger fish to fry? Let us know your thoughts below.
