‘Your position is filled’, ‘I’d rather him not return’ – Liverpool fans are laying into 25-year-old as early team news emerges

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to the return of the FA Cup this weekend. Undoubtedly the most prestigious cup in England, the competition is sure to be a high priority for Jurgen Klopp this year. Realistically, it’s probably the Reds’ best chance at a trophy – and so it makes sense for them to go all out against West Brom this weekend.

The Baggies are struggling at present, with Alan Pardew unable to turn the team around following his Premier League return – and so they are there for the taking for Liverpool.

Ahead of the game, Liverpool defender Alberto Moreno has provided an update on his fitness, having missed over a month through injury. Moreno has revealed that he is slowly edging back to full fitness, but whilst pictures of him training led fans to believe that he could be back this weekend, he has poured cold water on those suggestions by revealing that he doesn’t yet know when he will return.

On the surface, you would think that this is good news for the Reds. Given that their squad is thin on depth, particularly in defence, his return – that is coming soon, it seems – is important for Jurgen Klopp. However, the Liverpool fans over on Twitter don’t see it that way.

Instead, they’ve taken the opportunity to lay into the 25-year-old defender. Many are pointing towards the rise of Andy Robertson, with fans noting that the Scottish defender has taken the spot of Moreno permanently. One particularly cynical fan has even claimed that he’d rather Moreno never return!

Moreno clearly isn’t a very popular man on Merseyside at present. Take a look at a few responses, and let us know your thoughts on the update below!
