Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping for big names incoming through the Old Trafford door this summer to replace the legend and cult figure that was Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Jose Mourinho has certainly put his stamp on proceedings over his 24 months in charge of the Red Devils, and our barman thinks that he’s bought well in each window. It’s no different this summer, with the Red Devils already purchasing two of the hottest properties around Europe in Fred and Diogo Dalot.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic was the latest big name to leave Old Trafford, when he moved to LA Galaxy, alongside long-serving Michael Carrick’s retirement. Indeed, the Swede hadn’t had the best of seasons this year after such a spectacular debut season in the Premier League, in which he was the Red Devils’ leading scorer and aided in their double-winning campaign in Jose Mourinho’s maiden season.
However, our landlord thinks that United should be looking at hungrier strikers to be at Old Trafford for years to come, and reckons this top-class £45m rated by Transfermarkt striker fits the bill perfectly…
OUR VERDICT – Ciro Immobile
The Italian had one of his best seasons in Serie A, with him hitting roughly a goal a game for Lazio. The striker is in red-hot form and surely deserves a go on a bigger stage sooner rather than later. Alongside his many goals so far, he’s contributed many assists to the team and all of this doesn’t seem like letting up anytime soon.
Immobile doesn’t contribute much on the defensive side of things, but his goal to game ratio more than makes up for it. Surely a cheaper option to act as both cover and competition for Romelu Lukaku
