Newcastle United supporters have been pretty downbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side go down 1-0 to Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday, thus suffering an eighth Premier League defeat in their last nine matches.

Rafa Benitez’s men made a solid start to life back in the top-flight by winning four of their opening nine matches, but they have since then picked up just one point out of a possible 27 to slip into the bottom three. And they weren’t able to end that horrendous run on Saturday either as Mesut Ozil’s excellent first half strike was enough to secure Arsene Wenger’s Gunners a 1-0 victory in North London, thus moving them up to fifth place in the table, at the same time instigating Newcastle’s fall into the relegation zone for the first time since the opening weekend of the campaign.

Thus, there have been many despondent Magpies fans in the Tavern in recent times, many of whom are begging for the January transfer window in a bid to see their side strengthen ahead of the second half of the season.

And one man they have sensationally been linked with recently is Chelsea defender David Luiz, whose future at Stamford Bridge looks unclear following a reported rift with manager Antonio Conte earlier this season.

As such, several sides have been linked with a move for the 30-year-old centre-back, and Newcastle are one who are reportedly keeping tabs on the Brazil star ahead of a possible loan move next month.

Unsurprisingly, this news has stimulated quite a response from Magpies supporters on Twitter, many of whom are staggered and somewhat unconvinced by the links…

Newcastle fans… what do you think? Let us know!
