Our Arsenal fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that a new season can bring about a new look to the Emirates Stadium.
After four defeats in eleven days, the pressure is reaching boiling point for Arsene Wenger to stand down as Arsenal manager. Many of the regulars have had enough of the gutless performances and want things to change as soon as possible.
The surprise man that both Arsenal and Everton could be fighting over is that of Mikel Arteta, the current Manchester City coach. Having played for both clubs he has emotional ties with the teams in question, however, that isn’t enough for our Gunner fans in the pool room.
If it was a straight shootout over Arteta to take either role on, our Arsenal fans prefer him to go to the Toffees. After much debate, our landlord narrows it down to these two reasons why Arsenal should let Everton win the battle of Arteta…
With this potentially being Arteta’s first managerial post in football, the Gunners would not want a newbie taking over the reigns after a man of over 20 years in charge is to leave. It’s like going from one extreme to another.
Everton could be the perfect job for Arteta to cut his teeth, relatively low expectations compared to Arsenal and a better network of help should things go wrong. Arsenal can not afford to gamble on their next manager.
As previously put, the Gunners can not afford to take a gamble on the follow-up manager to Wenger. The board should take a look at Old Trafford and what happened there to learn from that mistake, they cannot have a David Moyes-like fiasco. Indeed, the man next in charge needs vast experience.
It’s going to be all change at the Emirates and a boss who knows how to steady a ship alongside fighting for trophies should be high on the priority list.
