The West Ham United midfielder has been on the radar of Arsene Wenger for a while and as the French manager is looking to strengthen up his midfield, this represents the perfect move. The club are willing to pay the £3.5 million to trigger the release clause in the player’s contract and the player is understood to be willing to make the move.
Wenger of course is known for being shall we say frugal in the January transfer window and despite claiming he has money to spend after repaying the loans for the stadium, it seems a player like Diame is more in his range than shall we say Zaha.
Diame is seen as good value for money by the club and someone who will bring that bit of grit to the middle of the park. Given the growing discontent at the Emirates Stadium, a bid for the player cannot come soon enough. Especially given they are set to face Diame’s club, West Ham next. You have to love the irony of football.
