Our Manchester United fans here in the Transfer Tavern will be hoping that everyone levels up in the last few months of the season.
Jose Mourinho has some big decisions to make in the summer on incomings and outgoings, and our regulars believe that a few players are brinking on the edge of being shown the Old Trafford door. Jose Mourinho needs a few players in key areas for next season if he is to mount a serious challenge for the Premier League title.
Indeed, he will certainly want to win the league during his time at United to be deemed a success, and for that to happen he has to be his ruthless best.
While there’s no doubt of incomings into Old Trafford, the outgoings are yet unclear among our local Mancs and with that in mind, our landlord takes a closer look at two players that need to impress now before their United careers are over…
The United fan favourite has had his game time reduced this season due to the arrival of Nemanja Matic in the summer. Herrera, however, is the type of player that Mourinho thrives on and with a lot a movement in and out of the central midfield expected this summer, the Spaniard really needs to show Mourinho why he doesn’t need to dip his hand into the market.
Having fallen out of favour, it’s important the former Bilbao man gets back to his best.
Currently, there are five centre-backs all fighting for two starting berths. Some have impressed this season and some haven’t been up to the level that’s expected of them so far, much to Mourinho’s probable frustration. With United being linked with many defenders, Smalling, in particular, has to really show why after eight years at the club he should be staying for longer.
Smalling has had peaks and troughs in his United career and he still makes many of the United faithful in the pub nervous when he’s named in the matchday squad.
