The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been concerned about the fitness of defender David Luiz over the last few months…

The defender has struggled with an ongoing knee problem, having had to wear strapping for much of the season, though he has valiantly fought through the pain barrier to remain a constant feature in the side under Antonio Conte.

However, it appears as though things are slowly turning around and looking up for the Brazilian – having recently confirmed to the Evening Standard that the problem will NOT require surgery.

He said: “We have amazing medical staff and they have been great with me…I won’t need an operation in the summer. But it’s very good for me to rest, not just the knee, but the body as well”.

This has come as a huge boost to the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern, with there being a genuine fear amongst the punters that the Brazilian could eventually worsen the injury due to a lack of treatment.

There is no doubting the significance that Luiz has had in Chelsea’s season so far, with his performances arguably amongst the best in the team. He has made 24 league appearances so far this season.
