The Blues fans in the Transfer Tavern still remain extremely proud of their team following their strong performance against Barcelona in midweek which earned Chelsea a draw.
Simply put, there was no better player on the pitch though than this man… and it wasn’t Lionel Messi for once. In fact it was Chelsea’s Willian who shone above the rest of the players on the pitch with his brilliant individual performance.
The Brazilian playmaker got his well-deserved goal in the game after hitting the post twice before the golden moment came.
It was a truly lovely finish as well. The 29-year-old (worth £28.8m according to Transfermarkt) found the bottom corner perfectly from the edge of the box, sending Stamford Bridge into pandemonium because they were leading world giants Barcelona at the time.
With Eden Hazard seemingly edging closer and closer each window to getting his dream move to Real Madrid, Chelsea fans shouldn’t be that worried of losing him because Willian is well and truly capable of taking the Belgian’s role as the goal source from midfield.
Some may underestimate the impact Willian has on his Chelsea team because the 29-year-old often has the spotlight stolen by his team-mate Eden Hazard.
Already though this season, he has surpassed 40 games in all competitions and in that time provided 11 goals and 10 assists for his team.
Chelsea are light on players but that doesn’t mean Roman Abramovich will have to spend the big bucks on a Hazard replacement should he leave the club. Instead, they can use the money to better equip the squad’s depth with better quality players allowing more rotation to be made by Antonio Conte but knowing he can still field a very strong Chelsea line-up.
