Chelsea fans here in the Tavern are delighted with their result against Barcelona, as the Blues head to the Nou Camp with it all still to play for.

Antonio Conte showed Chelsea fans what renewed hope in the Italian can bring them for the remainder of the season, as Willian’s wonder strike helped the Blues build the foundations for a successful trip to the Nou Camp. Although, the late equaliser did hand the Spanish giants an all-important away goal, meaning that a repeat of Chelsea’s heroics back in 2012 will be needed in the return leg.

But, there’s been positive developments emerge in terms of a possible future at Stamford Bridge for Thibaut Courtois, as according to reports in the Independent, the Belgian is open to a renewal with the London club.

The 25-year-old’s contract is set to expire at the Bridge in the summer of 2019, with Courtois already talking to the club about a renewal. Indeed, after making comments suggesting that his heart lies with Real Madrid last month, the ‘keeper has now put the emphasis back on the Blues to come up with an acceptable contract offer.

Although, for a player that spent a large part of his career in the Spanish capital playing for Atletico Madrid, it’s not easy for the Belgian to spend time away from his two kids who’re situated in the city. And, with Florentino Perez pulling out all the stops to bring him to the Bernabeu, it appears that it may be tough to hold onto the goalkeeper without providing a substantial offer.

Nevertheless, here’s a look at a couple of comments that Courtois shared about his future:

“My future is not yet clear but the phrase that my heart is in Madrid was misunderstood. It’s not easy to be away from my children, who are in Madrid.

“I have one year left and I’m talking to be able to renew with Chelsea.”

Landlord’s Verdict:

The decision for Courtois to begin talks about the possibility of a contract renewal is huge for the Blues, with one of the world’s best ‘keepers willing to have a future at the Bridge. Indeed, the Belgian is the one player in the Chelsea squad that’s become priceless to their efforts over the years, as a saviour for the Pensioners on multiple occasions throughout his Blues career.
