The Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern were delighted to see Antonio Conte’s men return to winning ways last night and strengthen their hunt for a top fourth berth. Indeed, while their victory over West Brom was far from a vintage performance, the punters propping up our bar are in a good mood.

One thing that was obvious last night, as it has been all season, was that Eden Hazard is a cut above pretty much everyone other than Mo Salah and the Manchester City side in the Premier League. The brilliant Belgian tore the Baggies apart last night and bagged two clever goals against Alan Pardew’s men, linking up very well with Olivier Giroud.

A real joy to watch, his brace last night made it 67 Premier League goals for the Blues, a big tally to go along with his strong return of 37 assists. That means Hazard has been involved in a whopping 104 Premier League goals – as Opta point out – meaning he’s only behind Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard in that race.

As you can imagine, it’s performances like that which mean the Blues in our bar are hoping and praying links with a move to Real Madrid fade away as soon as humanly possible. Forcing his way into the reckoning for Chelsea’s best ever player, Hazard can be enough to salvage something from this season at least.

Thoughts?
