Our Chelsea fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping that the board can keep one of their top performers in the summer.
Reports are breaking on the TV in the bar over a possible move away for Brazilian creative midfielder Willian this summer, and our regulars think it would be a smart move for the likes of Jose Mourinho to link back up with the Brazilian.
Having largely been in and out of the first team during the first half of season, Willian is slowly turning into one of Antonio Conte’s best performers.
However, the chance to hook back up with Jose Mourinho may be a big draw. No doubt Willian played some of his best football under the Portuguese boss and is showing glimmers of that this second half of the season. With that in mind, our landlord takes a look at TWO reasons why letting the £28.8m-rated star leave Stamford Bridge would be one of the worst mistakes in recent years…
Willian has scored ten goals and twelve assists so far this season, which is a great return for a player that hasn’t had a consistent run in the side for the majority of the season. One of the most underrated wide forwards in the league, he’d be a huge miss.
Offloading Willian would only strengthen one of their rivals chances of Premier League charge next season, and after the sale of Nemanja Matic last summer, surely the club would have learned their lesson.
If Chelsea wants to start winning trophies again, they have to keep their star players. Alongside Eden Hazard and N’Golo Kante, these are the types of players that Conte could build a team around for the future.
It also speaks volumes if a player wants to move on to better his career, and Chelsea will want to attract the best players and this kind of transfer out could reverberate around Europe.
