With the Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern hoping the international break has helped their side get over the loss to Manchester City, they could do with some good news.

Indeed, the Blues in the bar are hopeful Antonio Conte has been able to put the City loss behind them ahead of a return to Premier League action next weekend and they largely trust him to do so.

The Italian is a hugely popular figure in our bar, so reports from the Daily Mail hinting at the club’s efforts to keep him have gone down a storm today.

They claim top brass at Stamford Bridge will make a January offer for Juventus star Alex Sandro in the New Year in an attempt to appease the Premier League-winning coach. Conte has been linked with a return to Italy at the end of the season, though those behind the scenes in SW6 are understood to hope moving for the Brazilian left-back could help ease any tension.

However, the Old Lady are believed to be even less willing to sell in the New Year than they were during the summer, much to the frustration of the Chelsea fans in our bar.

Landlord’s Verdict:

Sandro would be a huge signing for Chelsea, even at a reported £60m. An improvement on Marcos Alonso, the Brazil star would give the club some serious strength in depth as they battle on all fronts.
