Chelsea fans here in the Tavern are hoping that the current crisis at Stamford Bridge isn’t going to affect the club’s chances of holding to some of their star players in the summer.

The Blues are in one of the toughest times that both fans and the club have experienced in recent years gone by, as back-to-back defeats has Antonio Conte’s future looking less than certain. Indeed, with Chelsea not even guaranteed a Champions League spot after their recent woes, this might just be a failure that could see the Blues’ superstars head for the exits. And, it looks as if one of Europe’s giants is praying on this happening, as according to reports in the Independent, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is a likelier option for Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.

Indeed, after Los Blancos’ longstanding interest in Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea, it now looks as if the Spanish giants are more likely to land Thibaut Courtois, as the Madrid hierarchy believe this is an easier deal to complete. And, to possibly add insult to injury for the Blues, the ‘keepers’ family live out in Madrid after playing for loan club Atletico Madrid, with it being his medium-term goal to return back to the Spanish capital.

Of course, Chelsea have one of the world’s best goalkeepers in the Belgian, a player that’s produced some quite sensational performances during the three-and-a-half-years he’s spent at Stamford Bridge. And, with the current troubles that the Blues are finding themselves in, perhaps the shot-stopper might attempt to make an early escape back to a city that provided him with some of his best footballing memories.

Landlord’s Verdict:

The Belgian would be a huge miss for the Blues, as a player that’s consistently saved them from the clutches of despair with some incredible saves and performances. However, in their current state, it would be hard for the goalkeeper to turn down a move to a city that’s offered him so much, with the opportunities to win trophies being greater in the ranks of the Los Blancos side.
