The Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern are not sure if Matteo Darmian has a future at Old Trafford. Darmian has been frozen out by Jose Mourinho, who has tended to prefer a number of other players in the full-back roles. But where will Darmian go if he leaves this month?
Roma are the latest club to express an interest in signing Darmian this month, The Daily Mirror is reporting. Serie A outfit Roma want to sign Darmian but only on loan – they are not interested in taking the Italy international defender on a permanent deal, much to the frustration of our resident Red Devils.
Darmian has played a total of 50 Premier League games for the Red Devils since joining the club in 2015 from Torino. But he has only managed six outings in the top flight this season and only four of those have been starts.
The 28-year-old’s future at Old Trafford looks bleak and a few clubs are now interested in ending his Manchester United nightmare. Roma want to sign him on loan this month but they face competition from AC Milan, where Darmian started his career. Serie A’s reigning champions Juventus could also make a move, though those in the Italian capital are believed to think they can land him on loan this month, before a permanent deal in the summer.
If United can shift him off the wage bill even slightly for six months, before pushing him out completely in the summer, it could open up space for a new defensive signing early in the summer window. A shame for the Italy star, who looked during his first season, though looks to have now future now.
