Everton supporters have been pretty downbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team lose the lead to go down 2-1 at Burnley in the Premier League on Saturday, thus suffering a fifth away defeat in a row.
Sam Allardyce’s men went into their clash with the Clarets off the back of losing 1-0 to Watford in their previous league encounter, meaning they had managed to win just one of their 14 away league games prior to Saturday’s trip to Lancashire. And their woeful away form continued at Turf Moor despite taking the lead through Cenk Tosun’s first half strike, with goals from Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood sealing all three points for Sean Dyche’s side, thus instigating Everton’s fall to 11th place in the Premier League table.
Thus, there have been many frustrated and angry Evertonians in the Tavern in recent times, yet they are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from Il Tempo (via Sport Witness), which suggests that defender Ramiro Funes Mori is on Lazio’s radar to replace Stefan De Vrij.
The 27-year-old made the move to Goodison Park back in 2015 and has since gone on to make 63 appearances for the Toffees, in which time he has managed five goals.
However, the centre-back has failed to feature at all for the Toffees this term due to injury, yet it very much remains to be seen whether he slots back into the Everton defence upon his return in the coming weeks.
And reports suggest that he could well be on his way out of Goodison Park this summer, as Lazio are reportedly considering the Argentina international as a possible replacement for defender De Vrij, who looks set to leave the club at the expiration of his contract at the end of the season.
But whether the Italian giants do indeed go after Funes Mori very much remains to be seen.
Landlord’s verdict: Everton may well have missed defender Ramiro Funes Mori this season, what with the Toffees having conceded 49 goals in the Premier League this term – only three teams have shipped more.
The 27-year-old has failed to make a single appearance this time round due to injury, and reports suggest that he could well be on his way out of the club this summer as Lazio are reportedly considering the Toffees man as a possible replacement for Stefan De Vrij.
But with Sam Allardyce’s men seriously struggling defensively this summer, they aren’t going to want to let Funes Mori leave, but were Lazio to step up their interest, it’s a deal which could well take place during the close season.
