The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern absolutely love the idea that the club could be set to sell Danny Drinkwater for a fee of around £20 million and replace him with Nice’s Ivorian midfielder, Jean Michael Seri. The 26-year-old has been superb for Nice over the last two years and would be the perfect partner for N’Golo Kante at Stamford Bridge.

Seri contributed to nine goals for Nice this season, scoring twice and registering seven assists, and the French club could be set to make a big profit on the 26-year-old after signing the midfielder for less than one million euros from Pacos Ferreira back in the summer of 2015. This summer could see the club make a profit of around 35 million euros if they cash in on the star with a number of Europe’s top clubs interested in his services.

The midfielder could be everything that Tiemoue Bakayoko promised to be. The ex-Monaco man has been an incredible flop this season, with his inability to keep up with the pace of the Premier League being the standout feature of his game.

If Seri does make the move to Chelsea, he will do well to avoid the same fate that the Frenchman has suffered, despite the fact Bakayoko enjoyed a slight resurgence in the last few games of the season, with the FA Cup final being a highlight.

You can read our resident Blues’ thoughts on Seri here:

The fans overriding opinion is that Danny Drinkwater simply isn’t on the same level as Jean Michael Seri. The Nice man has been superb over the last few seasons and has proved that he can do it consistently for more than one campaign. If Chelsea were to bring him in it would be one of the signings of the summer.
