The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are pretty alarmed at reports linking Antonio Conte with a Chelsea exit. According to the Daily Mail, the Blues are expecting Conte to depart at the end of the season – and have drawn up a list of names, notably Max Allegri, as they consider who they will replace him with.

Conte’s tenure at Stamford Bridge has been tumultuous, but he’s been very successful. Our resident Blues are hesitant to accept the prospect of him leaving, but one name that could certainly get them back on side is that of Carlo Ancelotti. In fact, our landlord thinks that he would be the perfect addition for Chelsea.

Of course, the most obvious reason for this comes in the form of what he can bring to the table. The Italian is a tactical genius, whilst he is also renowned for his man management. In the last few years, he has won a plethora of trophies, most notably the Champions League with Real Madrid. That competition is, of course, still Chelsea’s main goal – and so if Abramovich wants to win it again, Ancelotti could well be his man. What’s more, given his long career, he has proven that he can do it across the world.

Significantly, that – obviously – includes the Premier League. He’s already had a stint at Chelsea under Abramovich, and so he’s well aware of what it takes to succeed. He won two trophies in his first year in England, and under him, the Blues came on significantly. Whilst other managers may need a period of adjustment, Ancelotti would need no such time.

However, perhaps the most significant reason that Abramovich must consider comes off the field, and it involves the fans. Only once has the Russian faced a revolt from the Chelsea faithful, and that was when Jose Mourinho was sacked and Rafa Benitez was brought in to replace him. If Conte is sacked, given his heroic status amongst fans, the Chelsea owner can expect a similar response. He simply cannot afford to bring someone in that isn’t popular, and so Ancelotti would be a very safe choice. The Italian remains a fan favourite, owing to his last stint in London, and so a move would certainly keep the fans on side.

Bringing Ancelotti in would be a safe, but very beneficial move for Roman – agreed?
