Brighton boss Chris Hughton has performed miracles with his side in the league this season, with the club on course to survive their first ever year of Premier League football.

However the former Newcastle United and Norwich City boss will not rest on his laurels, and will know that strengthening during the January transfer window could provide the difference between the drop and survival, this season. Seagulls fans here in the The Transfer Tavern share the same testament as their boss, and are keen to see new additions this month. Our landlord loves a catch up with the south coast bunch, and chatted with fans over a game of pool about the month ahead. Breaking news emerged halfway through the chat however, with The Sun reporting that the club had agreed a deal with Hearts for 16-year-old midfielder, Marc Leonard.

The talented attacking midfielder looks set to link up with the Amex Stadium side, with The Sun reporting a fee that could rise to around £350,000 based on appearances. Leonard only signed a three-year deal with the Scottish side in June, but with Newcastle, Celtic and Everton also interested in the teenager, it appears Brighton have won the race for his signature.

Landlord’s Verdict: Brighton are certainly building for a Premier League future with this signing, securing the services of one of the hottest prospects in Scottish football.

Perhaps not the signing fans were hoping to see this month, news of Leonard’s arrival will be greeted warmly nonetheless, and all will hope to see the player go on to become a first-team regular at the Amex in the next couple of years.
