Arsenal may have tasted defeat at the hands of second tier Nottingham Forest this weekend, but manager Arsene Wenger must quickly put the disappointing defeat behind him, and focus upon leading the Gunners to glory in both the Carabao Cup and Europa League.

A tricky double-legged tie against Chelsea awaits in the Carabao, as well as an interesting tie with surprise Swedish package Ostersunds in Europe. Fans here in The Transfer Tavern are confident in their side’s ability to progress on both fronts, but know an excellent display against Chelsea will be required to set up a Wembley final with either Manchester City or Bristol City. This month’s transfer window could prove to define the Gunners’ year, with the futures of star pair Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez certainly up in there. Fans are resigned to losing the duo in the summer, but should they depart this month, then replacements must be sourced very quickly.

To replace Sanchez’s goals and Ozil’s creativity will be difficult, but Wenger may be able to do so should a successful bid for Napoli’s Lorenzo Insigne prove successful. Rated highly by our landlord, who couldn’t help but sing the praises of the Italian over a pint with Arsenal fans, Insigne could be the perfect solution to Wenger’s problem. The player is perennially underrated, with his speed and trickery sure to cause defenders nightmares at Premier League level. Already with eight goals and five assists to his name in Italy this season, Insigne has consistently proven himself to be one of the most exciting players in the southern European league, and the 26-year-old could be ready to try his hand abroad.

The player ticks all the boxes for his threat in front of goal as well as his creativity, and could be the first of many as Wenger attempts to rebuild a squad over the course of the next couple of transfer windows.

Arsenal fans, does Insigne sound like the man for the job? Let us know!
