The Liverpool fans were absolutely delighted in the Transfer Tavern this weekend as results in the Premier League enabled their club to open up a 7-point gap on 5th placed Chelsea.

Jurgen Klopp’s side continued their excellent run of form in recent weeks as they cruised to a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at Anfield on Saturday evening. The Magpies defended resolutely for extended periods of the match, but Liverpool’s class ultimately proved too much for the travelling side. Another three points for The Reds enabled them to take another decisive step towards qualifying for the Champions League this season, and considering their current form, it seems highly unlikely that they will fail to qualify from this position.

Finishing in the top-four almost commands more prestige than winning a trophy itself in this day and age. That notion is purely a reflection of the immensely high standards that have been set in the Premier League in recent years, but there’s no doubt that Klopp will harbour ambitions to achieve much more than just qualify for the Champions League in the seasons to come.

Now that the charismatic German manager has become accustomed to English football after almost three years in charge at Anfield, he must be itching to lift his first trophy for the club. There is enough quality in Liverpool’s squad right now to suggest they are capable of lifting a trophy next season, but the club must continue to strengthen this summer to avoid being left behind by their free-spending rivals.

With that being said, Liverpool should consider bringing AC Milan’s Suso back to Anfield in the summer to provide a fresh dynamic to their attacking line-up. According to the Italian media outlet Calciomercato, The Reds are interested in making a bid for the 24-year-old who has a release clause in his contract worth 40 million euros.

Considering the current state of the transfer market which is fuelled by inflated price-tags and unrealistic valuations, the aforementioned figure is extremely reasonable. So far this season, Suso (valued at £22.5 million by Transfermarkt) has been a standout player for the Italian giants, as his record of 8 goals and 11 assists in all-competitions strongly suggests.

Jurgen Klopp will need to bolster his options throughout the squad in order to give himself a realistic chance of competing for silverware next season, especially in attacking positions where the club currently lack strength in depth beyond the first choice trio of Mane, Firmino and Salah. The fact that Liverpool decided to allow Suso to leave in 2015 should do nothing to deter their bid, as he has developed into a fantastic player during his time in Serie A.
