Leicester City fans were left to drown their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern over the weekend after another Premier League defeat.

The Foxes went down 2-1 at home to champions Chelsea on Saturday to suffer a third league loss of the campaign, leaving Craig Shakespeare’s men with just three points from their opening four matches, and indeed leaving those Leicester fans lining up at the bar hoping for a quick upturn in form.

Nonetheless, there may be some positive news on the horizon for Foxes fans in the Tavern, as a recent report in The Daily Telegraph suggests that winger Demarai Gray is on the verge of signing a new contract at the King Power Stadium.

The 21-year-old only moved to the top-flight outfit back in January 2016 and just five months later earned himself a Premier League winner’s medal, yet has on the whole struggled to force his way into the starting line-up at the Midlands club.

In fact, just ten of his 46 league appearances have been starts for the side, and speculation was rife over the summer that he could be on his way out of the King Power Stadium, with Eddie Howe’s Bournemouth reportedly making two bids for the winger, while Crystal Palace were also thought to be interested.

However, recent reports suggest that he is set to sign a new deal with Leicester, news which is likely to give Foxes fans in the Tavern something to cheer about following their side’s frustrating start to the season.

Landlord’s verdict: There were many occasions last season, certainly during Leicester City’s struggles, in which the Foxes were crying out for Demarai Gray’s impact and influence, yet he started just nine times in the Premier League for the club last term.

And the 21-year-old’s failure to nail down a starting role saw the likes of Bournemouth and Crystal Palace express an interest during the summer, yet the August 31 deadline passed with the England Under-21 star remaining at the King Power Stadium.

And he seems happy to do so as he is close to penning a new and improved deal with the Foxes, for whom he now must seek to push on and fulfil his undoubted talent.

Leicester fans… what do you make of the news? Let us know!
