The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are eagerly anticipating their clash with Southampton on Sunday, and they are desperately hoping their side can record another huge victory in their race for the top-four.

Jurgen Klopp takes his side to the south-coast this weekend knowing that his side can’t afford many more slip ups if they wish to qualify for the Champions League this season. The supporters are hoping that they can finish inside the top-four for plenty of self-explanatory reasons, not least of which is so they can attract a high-quality replacement for Philippe Coutinho next summer.

The resident Kopites propping up our bar in the tavern were bewildered by their club’s failure to sign a replacement for their Brazilian magician in January, and they are hoping the decision of Liverpool’s hierarchy to wait until the summer window will not cost them a top-four finish this season.

Liverpool were consistently linked with a move for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar throughout the January window, but the potential transfer remained purely speculative as Liverpool never officially made a formal bid for the Frenchman.

However, according to James Pearce at the Liverpool Echo, Liverpool have now ended their interest in signing Lemar and they will not be pursuing his signature during the summer transfer window.

In response to the news, plenty of Liverpool supporters took part in a debate over who their club should be looking to target instead, with the likes of Christian Pulisic, James Rodriguez and Nabil Fekir all getting a mention.

Unsurprisngly, the news also sparked a discussion on the merits of FSG’s ownership as a handful of supporters believe that the clubs refusal to purchase Lemar highlights the fact that the American owners are incapable of successfully running their beloved club.

Here’s what the supporters on Twitter have had to say in response to Lemar’s transfer update…
