Liverpool supporters have been pretty downbeat in the Transfer Tavern in the last few hours after seeing their side’s 18-match unbeaten run come to a shuddering halt courtesy of a 1-0 defeat to Swansea City on Monday night.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the Premier League’s bottom side off the back of beating leaders Manchester City in their last outing, and having not lost in the league since October 22. However, the Reds produced an insipid display in South Wales and were duly punished just before half time as Alfie Mawson brilliantly fired home after the visitors failed to clear a corner, in turn sealing a massive three points for Carlos Carvalhal’s men, at the same time inflicting just a third loss of the campaign on the Merseyside giants.
Subsequently, there have been many despondent Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, and they are unlikely to be overly thrilled by a recent report from ForzaRoma.info (via Calcio Mercato), which outlines comments from the agent of reported Reds target Alisson regarding his future at Serie A giants Roma.
The 25-year-old goalkeeper made the move to the Italian outfit back in 2016 and has since proven his worth with 16 clean sheets in just 41 appearances for the club, in which time he has also conceded just 40 goals.
And his excellent form for Roma has reportedly attracted the attention of Klopp’s Liverpool, as well as other top European clubs, yet the player’s agent Ze Maria Neis has confirmed that the Reds, as well as other potential suitors, have yet to make contact regarding a possible move.
He said: ‘Personally speaking, no club has been in contact yet and he is 100% focused on doing well with Roma.
‘He is happy to be in Rome, and the club is happy with him.’
And these comments are unlikely to delight our resident Reds fans, many of whom are hoping their side can indeed bring a new goalkeeper to the club, be it this month or in the summer.
Landlord’s verdict: Both Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius have done little to suggest that they can be the goalkeepers to help Liverpool win the Premier League title in the past few years.
And it seems that manager Jurgen Klopp has recognised this by reportedly eyeing up a move for Roma’s Alisson, who currently sits above Manchester City’s Ederson as the Brazil number one given his fine efforts for the Italian giants.
Yet the Reds have reportedly yet to make contact with the Serie A club regarding a possible move for the 25-year-old, and with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain also thought to be interested, the Merseysiders may have missed their chance to land the supremely talented shot-stopper.
