Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern will be looking ahead to their Champions League semi-final clash with AS Roma, however, a number of the locals will be interested with some of the news coming out of the club in recent times.

The Anfield outfit have been performing well under the guidance of Jurgen Klopp this season, which has seen them rise to third in the Premier League table and knock out Manchester City in European competition, but there have always been question marks over his goalkeepers.

Simon Mingolet started the campaign, however, he was replaced by Loris Karius after a number of errors, although both have been in-and-out of the team. Locals have not always been pleased with the performances they have displayed, although the German has turned things around.

The 24-year-old, who was thought to be replaced in the summer with a possible new arrival, has played so well in recent matches, that it is being thought he could be offered a new deal to stay at Anfield.

The Sun are claiming the former Mainz goalkeeper is set to receive a new deal that would increase his £50,000-a-week wages, although he still has three years left on his current contract, despite Klopp’s desire to bring in a new shot-stopper.

Landlord’s Verdict

The Liverpool locals in the Tavern will have been pleased with the performances from the German ‘keeper, however, many of the punters will feel he still has a significant amount of time left on his deal and will reserve judgement until he proves himself more. A number of locals will also be looking to see if the Reds bring in another goalkeeper this summer, as they feel the two they have are prone to making errors.
